Step into the rhythm of the wild Kalahari at Grassland Safari Lodge, Botswana – where conservation meets culture.
Our immersive volunteer program offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to live alongside rhinos, the San people, and Botswana’s iconic wildlife, while contributing to real conservation and community impact.
Volunteers experience a meaningful balance of wildlife conservation, San cultural preservation, eco-tourism, and sustainable land management — all in one unforgettable adventure.
At Grassland, you’ll wake up to rhino tracks outside your chalet, learn from San elders, and ride through vast savannas on horseback.
You’ll help protect endangered species and support projects that preserve ancient traditions.
Your contribution directly funds and strengthens our Rhino Conservation, Predator Research, and San Community Support initiatives — creating a lasting legacy in Botswana’s Kalahari region.
This is more than volunteering.
It’s living with purpose in the wild.
Each day brings new purpose and discovery. You’ll take part in a variety of meaningful activities, including:
Rhino Conservation Support: Assist with patrols, observation, and awareness initiatives that protect our white rhinos.
Predator Project Work: Help monitor lions, cheetahs, and other predators through data collection and field observation.
Wildlife Monitoring: Join bush walks and safaris to record sightings and learn traditional tracking from San guides.
Horse Program Assistance: Work with our horses – feeding, grooming, and enjoying guided rides through the Kalahari bush.
San Cultural Preservation: Learn and share in traditional skills, join cultural evenings, and play the San game X’abi.
Bush Clearing & Habitat Management: Assist in removing invasive plants and maintaining healthy grasslands for wildlife.
Eco-Lodge Hospitality: Support our lodge team and gain insight into Botswana’s sustainable tourism practices.
Volunteers stay in comfortable chalets with en-suite bathrooms, combining the beauty of the bush with modern comfort.
Three delicious home-cooked meals are provided daily, featuring local ingredients and traditional San-inspired flavors.
Vegetarian and dietary options are available.
Programs run all year round, with limited spaces to ensure each volunteer receives personal attention and a genuine, hands-on experience.
The ideal stay is 2 weeks, though longer stays can be arranged on request.
We welcome volunteers aged 18 years and older who are passionate about nature, respectful of local culture, and eager to contribute to wildlife conservation and community upliftment.
No prior experience is needed – just enthusiasm and a love for Africa’s wild spaces.
Stop dreaming of safari – start living it with purpose. Join the Grassland team for a two-week adventure where your time directly protects white rhinos, supports predator research, and preserves ancient San culture.
