At Grassland Safari Lodge, our commitment to wildlife conservation is at the very heart of what we do. We are incredibly proud of our dedicated white rhinoceros conservation project, a journey that began eight years ago with just two rhinos. Through careful management and unwavering commitment, we have watched our rhino population steadily grow, a testament to the success of our efforts.

This journey, however, has not been without its challenges. The process of relocating bulls to prevent inbreeding is a massive undertaking, requiring helicopters, trucks, veterinarians, and a highly skilled team. These essential tasks come at a significant cost. Furthermore, because the white rhino is a critically endangered species, we go above and beyond to ensure their well-being. This includes providing supplementary feed, like lucerne, during the dry months to ensure their survival.

Our conservation area is vast, and while we patrol daily by vehicle, on foot, and on horseback, we are currently raising funds to purchase a small Bat Hawk light aircraft. This plane would be a game-changer for our conservation efforts, greatly improving our ability to:

• Locate specific rhinos quickly from the air: Ensuring we can monitor individual animals with ease.

• Monitor the safety and movement of the herd: Gaining a better understanding of their behavior and habitat use.

• Spot suspicious activity that may indicate poaching threats: Providing a crucial early warning system against illegal activities.

• Inspect fence boundaries, especially where elephants cause damage: Allowing us to quickly identify and repair breaches to keep our rhinos safe.

We are deeply proud of our white rhino project and are committed to ensuring its success for generations to come. Every contribution helps us protect one of Earth’s most iconic and endangered species: the white rhinoceros, the second-largest land mammal.
